Soils
There are two major and radically different soil types: grey-brown sandy loam on the northern side and younger, red volcanic soil on the southern side.

Taste
Lighter bodied, with pleasant aromas of red fruits (e.g. cherries, strawberries) and flowers (e.g. violets), together with refreshing acidity which makes them good accompaniments to food - the local region has become famous for its 'fresh' Mediterranean-style cuisine.
